Wedding Seminar in Cork – Pictures
August 26th, 2008
My thanks go to Liam Ramsell of Irish Eyes for hosting today’s shooting weddings seminar in Cork. Here are a few of my pictures straight from Lightroom.

This spectacular signature shot makes the most of an overcast day and caused quite a stir among delegates. Shots like this are very repeatable when you have the know how.

Taken on my Canon 5D, with a 580 EX2 flash and a STE2 transmitter. The flash was zoomed in and set to create the slash of light. -2 stops of exposure compensation were dialed in to create the dramatic look.

Shot through a glazed door covered in fingerprints. Yes it really is this milky on purpose.

A beautiful bride in a dark space. This shot was transformed with a lot of exposure compensation.

Tight crops using a 70-200mm lens rarely disappoint with a bride this stunning. I was obviously shooting 'looking down' pictures today.

Photography by remote control... I took this picture of todays delegates with Liam our host and our models with my Canon 5D camera mounted on a monopod. I held the monopod high over my head and triggered the shutter using the self timer method.
All new shooting

I enjoyed the Wedding Day at Fota House. Whilst having coffee I spoke with some guys about repairing the 580EX hotshoe; it is designed to be the weakest part of the kit so that it snaps off easy and does not cause greater damage. It can be expensive to get repaired and it is so easy to do it yourself. I promised the reference to some course members. The URL for a site that explains everything, with clear photos is http://planetneil.com/tangents/2007/05/31/repairing-the-canon-580ex-hotshoe-foot/
If you scroll down the comments on the site you will find a very reasonable supplier of the part required in the UK called R. Lehmann. Hope this helps some

It looked like a great day had by all.
I will definitely get my name in for the next course.
What set up was used for the first signature shot as it really makes an overcast day look superb?

Thanks Damien,
Your work is amazing, have you considered taking a course in the north of Ireland, maybe Belfast?
Cork is about 5 hours drive from this side?

Hi Paul,
Thank you for your kind words. I was in Belfast a few years ago when I judged the PPANI annual awards. I’d be happy to do another trip at some time. Not before April though as my diary is full. Drop Laura an email with your ideas or suggestions. We respond to demand rather than try and predict it. Damien.

Hi Damien
You mention ‘battery powered video light for low level ambient light pictures’ in one of your posts. Can you tell me exactly what that is and how I can get hold of one please?
Thank you!
