Infra red studio portraits – pictures

December 2nd, 2008

Whilst teaching studio lighting last week I couldnt help but take a few frames on my converted Canon 10Dir.

I took this picture in infra red and I lit it with three Broncolor flash heads.

Marko my picture editor, gave this frame a blue tone look too.

This close up clearly shows the tonal dynamics of skin in infra red exposures.

Okay, this is just a quick look but I think the medium might just be perfect for pregnancy and figure photography.

I’m absolutely loving these images in infrared.

It’s not a style you see everyday, but a few of these shots together look quiet stunning. And previous shots of scenary and landscape scenes that you have done are really dreamy and have a real fantasy look to them.

I’m tempted to get on ebay and find and old DSLR to get converted myself.

    Damien these images are superb.
The immediate thing that struck me was how very similar in pose and style to some pictures I have of my grandmother taken in 1931. I think you are spot on (as always) when you say they would suit figure photography, especially at the moment with retro chic / cherish the dress (TM ;) ) very much in fashion

really great – neat pics. would like to know what is the best way to convert my d29 canon to infrared..or is there is stil a need in it, I mean if there are existing other ways of getting the infrared scale onto the final output.
    thanks

    Hi Valeri,

Take a look at my posts under the infrared tab at the top of the page. Start with this post near the bottom. You will find a lot of useful information about camera conversion and the other options.

    Kindest regards,

    Damien.
