Thanks Anthony,

It's not what you look at that matters in photography it's what you see. Train yourself to see lines, shapes, tones, textures and shadows. It will enable you to make great shots out of seemingly nothing.

Best regards, Damien.

Well, I did it Damien! Took your advice and have been using the D7000 for about a month now - LOVE it! Have used it on two shoots with fab results and very happy clients! Thanks again for your help and advice - it means a lot to those of us starting out.
Cheers,
Tania

Hi Tania,

Welcome to the world of pro photography. I strongly suggest you buy a D7000 with the kit lens it comes with. The combination is absolutely fantastic and will do you for some time to come. Then add a 50mm f1.4, then the 105mm VR macro f/2.8 and you will have a dream kit. I hope this helps,

Damien.

Hi Damien,

Fantastic information as always! Love reading your blogs.

I am newish to the pro business and just about to upgrade my camera. Been considering various Canon and Nikon kits, but favouring the Nikon D90 at the mo. I am on a limited budget so the "big boys" will have to stay on wish list for now! I do a lot of outdoor portrait work using natural light, studio work with continuous lighting in the winter months and a couple of weddings a year. Love doing the odd bit of landscape and macro too for leisure more than anything. What would you recommend for my first proper DSLR and lens kit?

Cheers,
Tania

Hi Jay,

Thanks :) The MF kit had to go when I started teaching but now I'm thinking about a Leica S2 kit. I must curb the expensive cravings. Haha. Cheers, Damien.

What a fantastic piece Damien.
Thank you so much for sharing.
Your work is utterly beautiful.
BTW, I'm very jealous of the H2/P25 back.....

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your comment. I dont have much kit. I sell one camera before buying the next etc. I use a maximum of one camera body and three lenses on any shoot :)

Cheers,

Damien.

As a Pro of 44 years here in Ireland , Damien , I have to say that the list of equipment you use probably had a bigger mortgage than your house !
And that cottage is so idyllic , like something eerie out of Wuthering Heights .

Hi Damian
I have spent the last couple of hours reading various articles on your blog and this one really struck me. Your ability to communicate not only through your images but with excellent web content is inspirational.
After a ten year hiatus from pro photography I am finding my way in a new (digital) world. I cut my teeth on medium and large format back in the day. It is great to be back.
Thank you.
