I’ve been quiet on here recently because I’ve been writing my next photography book. It contains everything I know about portraiture. Topics like building rapport, directing the moment and capturing a narrative are all covered in this complete guide to shooting portraits. I’m at the half way point so please excuse the lack of shoot updates here on Prophotonut while the writing process is underway. When it’s written I’ll be able to update you on the publishing details. Please be patient and have a drink for me over the festive season.
Hi Damien,
Will the (highly anticipated) book have details regarding the light settings and placement, and the camera settings you used?
Cheers,
Nigel.
Hi Nigel.
Yes, I have written all the details of the lighting kit, settings, placement and motivation behind each and every shot. There are 447 of them and that’s why the project is taking months/ years to complete ;)
Cheers,
Damien.
I am with Gordon, though I hope there is a quality hard back like the CJ Whichello that I enjoyed so much.
Hi Damien, any further news on the publication date for this much anticipated book please?
Hi Gordon, It’s looking like Tuesday 2nd of August at the moment :) Cheers Damien.
I like ,many others I’m sure, are really looking forward to this. Fingers crossed for the 2nd. Writing a book along with all your other activities must be a real challenge so thanks for making the effort. to do this. I assume the book will be in the form of a digital download if not will it be available for hard copy pre order? If so do you have any idea of what the price will be? Thanks, Gordon
Thanks Gordon and Nigel.
It will be a digital download and if sales are good it will fund a high quality hard back copy and those that download the ebook will get a rebate off the hard copy. That’s the plan :) Pricing still to be set but expect it to be priced at no brainer level :)
Cheers,
Damien.
“I’ll start POSING when I’m back from Venice”. I would much prefer that you took the photos and left the posing to those with a more sympathetic figure!! In the meantime, any news on the book?
Thanks advice accepted :)) I was hoping to get the book finished before the start of the season but now shooting, travel and life is getting in the way. The first 6 chapters are due back from the proof readers in the next week and my designer can get on with honing them into the proof layout. I’m looking at June. I’m taking two weeks off when I’m back from Switzerland to get it done.
Cheers, Damien.
Hi Damien, any updates on when this e-book might become available please? Kindest Regards, Gordon
Hi Gordon,
I’m fitting writing the book in between photographic expeditions, writing blog posts and replying to comments. It will be finished when it is finished. Probably within a few months depending upon how my workload pans out.
Kindest regards,
Damien.
HI Damien – will follow your advise while waiting for your next post. Not sure what to drink for you … can offer you a variety of Islay Malts (Ardbeg, Laphroig, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, …), fine stuff from Isle of Skye, Jura or up to the North Scapa or Highland Park ??? ;-)
Enjoy the holiadys and I’m looking forward to see much more of your great posts in 2016 !!!
Best regards – JED
Haha, thanks Jed,
I rarely drink spirits as it would be a slippery slope for me. The writing is going well and I’ll start posing when I’m back from Venice first week in Feb :)
Cheers, Damien.
