New York shoot for a documentary

Update Pholaborate is a new defunct online community of photographers with one thing in common – Passion for photography. It launched in July but failed to get enough participants to continue.

I hope to release the wonderful documentary on here in it’s entirety soon.

Shooting the streets of New York for Pholaborate

1.  I shot Denisa in Prague earlier this year and she agreed to model for me in NYC for a revival shoot of a lighting style that I had created between 2008 and 2010. A gallery showcasing some of those original shots is here.

Pholaborate invited me to New York to be filmed for a one hour documentary. They wanted to capture the ‘real me’ at work. The crew, from NYC, filmed me behind the scenes on a photoshoot. They filmed my preparation then the shoot itself. Once that was ‘in the can’ they recorded an interview with me at my rented Brooklyn apartment.

When I was first asked to do this I thought “What could be easier”? “What could possibly go wrong”? ‘Rock up, shoot, chat, goodbye’. Yeah right! One thing that life has taught me is these things are never as easy as they seem and the first barrier I usually come across is me. Anyway, without giving too much away this one hour documentary shows how I deal with really stressful situations first hand. It holds nothing back and the interview by Jens Krauer is masterful. He unlocks a side of me I’ve never exposed on camera before. It’s a rollercoaster, enjoy the ride.

Filming for Pholaborate in New York

01. I used a couple of  fresnel flash heads on my Godox AD200 units to light Denisa. In the documentary I discuss my shooting strategy and equipment choice plus you see me set the lights up. It’s not all plain sailing as you will see. Throughout the film I’m talking to Jens and he is cleverly extracting my thoughts in a way I’ve never experienced before.

I hope to bring you the full documentary here soon. I’m still negotiating with the producers.
