I’ve been busy since my trips to Spain and Italy teaching photography on a 1:1 and 1:2 basis. I’ve taught five sessions in the past two weeks, all of them different and targeted exactly to my clients needs. With a private session, I can expand on a photographers existing skill base and help develop new products for their customers, old and new.
For this session I was joined by two women photographers from the same studio. Their brief was to shoot a set of boudoir images that could easily be taken in a clients home using both the existing available light and just one other continuous light.
The day was dark, very dark. The morning started with one of the heavy skies that gave a constant drizzle and by lunchtime the rain had stopped but the darkness never lifted. I used just one Lupo 1200 or available light for all these pictures. I set the 1200 Lupo to minimum power to simulate a Lupo 800. I added a few lighting modifiers to the mix throughout the day to make the shots more interesting.

02. Iskra is one of my favourite models. She is always fun, totally gorgeous, very professional and a joy to work with. These first few shots of Iskra were lit with controlled window light or my Lupo simulating the look.
My clients had come for two days of 1:2 training and Blaise had arranged a boutique hotel for us to shoot in. The clients stayed in the suite that we shot in and the system worked very well indeed. Day two of the training was an intimate couples shoot that started at the hotel and ended at the Lovegrove studio.

08. Exposure – You choose. Exposures over a range of 4 stops would have all looked fine for this set up. It’s up to the photographer to choose the look that best matches the set of images being created.
After we had finished the low key session we had a fine pub lunch and then moved into the high key zone by selecting a different lighting strategy with our one Lupo light.
After we had shot a few sequences I ate a piece of Iskra’s wonderful home made Victoria sponge cake. It was fabulous, held together well with great texture and lightness. Thank you Iskra.
I closed the curtains and we used gel on the Lupo to switch from a mixed lighting look above to a night time look below. We just used one light to create all these images.

27. It’s easy to make a hard light soft but difficult to make a soft light hard. Lit with the Lupo 1200 (at Lupo 800 power setting) and a white umbrella, as are the sequence of pictures below.
If you would like to discuss your ideas for a 1:1 training session give Blaise a call on +44 (0)1275 853204. It is a great idea to club together and have a private workshop for up to four photographers covering a genre you choose at less than the cost of attending a set workshop as a delegate. Blaise will arrange a shortlist of suitable models to choose from and can help arrange accommodation and locations too. Kick start 2012 with a dose of inspiration and a renewed passion for photography.

Two sets of stunning photos all with one lupo, is this magic or just the genius of Damien, I thing the latter.
Amazing as always, I love particularly No. 1-4 and the last three images – the mood, energy and expression is just excellent !

Amazing set Damien.. you make all it sound so easy..
Hi Tony,
The strategies are simple, the lighting is simple, the poses are simple but to put them all together in harmony is the key. Thank you for taking the time to comment and for your kind words.
Regards, Damien.
Oh Damien, these are all so amazing! I am totally smitten by your low key Photos. 1-4 are best ones! And Iskra is so stunning! Love, love, love.
Thank you Sona,
I’m getting the vibe for low key interiors during the winter months and high key in the summer. Both are interchangable but sometimes that’s how it pans out.
Cheers,
Damien.
