A new tutorial video

Photographer: Damien Lovegrove

Video production: Martin Hill

Lighting kit: Godox AD200 Pro, Scatterflash

Location: Two Wei Location House

The day before the UK lockdown was announced we filmed this series of five setups showing how I use the Scatterflash lighting modifier with a Godox AD200 flash.

I’ve sat on this video until now because I wanted Scatterflash to be in stock when it was released.

I’ve used the time wisely by rebuilding websites and rescheduling my 2020 workshops. There will be more announcements on both of those in the days to come. But for now, here is an eleven-minute tutorial video.

Hi Brian, I’ve just reintroduced Scattergels and they now work with the AD200 a different way. They clip onto barn doors attached to a bowens mount adapter. The info is here :) https://lovegroveadventures.com/scattergels/

Please feel free to ask any other questions,

        Best regards,

Hello, will it work with my Nikon Sb 700 speedlight ?

    Reply
    • Damien

Hi Alain, Thank you for your question. Both the Nikon SB700 and SB800 are just too small for the Scatterflash kit that I have for sale at the moment. I am under pressure to make a slightly smaller block for compact flashes like your SB700 and round flash heads like the A1. Once I have recovered all my development costs on the original kit I’ll start the process of designing the next generation blocks.

      Kindest regards,

      Damien

          Hi Jamie,

I won’t be making another batch. If I get a buyer for the company then production will resume. I’ve made up and sold 800 kits and I’ve now retired this project.

          Kind regards,

          Damien

Hello Mr. Lovegrove: Love your work and your products. I have a question: is there any way to get dimensions on the length of the rods and the hole within the rectangular flash bracket? I am planning to order scatterflash and jerry rigging it to a strobe set up I have. I put my name on the list to be informed when scatterflash is back for sale. Thank you

      Hi Emile,

Thank you. The rods are approximately 27cm long and the hole size is 5cm by 7.5cm. The important thing to remember is the smaller the light source the better the effect. Larger sources make weaker shadows etc. This light size and rod length combination is perfect.

      Kindest regards,

      Damien.

    Hi Damien,

is the part of the Scatterflash than goes on the Flash unit flexible? Reason I’m asking is that I would like to use with a Profoto A1 which has a round head…

    Thanks and best regards,

    Herbert

      Hi Herbert,

The Scatterflash block is designed for the AD200 and will not fit the A1 or the round head Godox units. The larger the head the less effective the Scatterflash would be so a small fresnel head is best.

      Kindest regards,

      Damien.

    Hi there Damien,
I’m eagerly awaiting for the September restocking of Scatterflash. Love all the videos and help, you’re an awesome teacher and very thorough at explaining. My question is, will the Scatterflash holder worth on a Godox TT685? I believe the dimensions are similar to the SB900. Thank you and keep up the fantastic work.

      Hi Patrick,

Unfortunately I’m completely out of stock at the moment. I’m hoping to have 60 more units at the end of September then a further 200 at the end of October. I’ll let you know when there is stock :)

Is Nikon flash D700 compatible with scatter flash modifier?

    Reply
    • Damien

Hi Carlos, unfortunately the D700 is too small for the first version of Scatterflash without some kind of packing piece. This Scatterflash has a perfect fit on the D900/ 910.

      Thank you for your enquiry.

      Kindest regards,

      Damien

Yes we ship globally from our base in the UK. Shipping to Italy is fast.

Select € Euro from the top of this page, add Scatterflash to your basket and checkout in the normal way.

PayPal is the most popular payment method but there are others too.

Damien! Amazing tutorial (as always)! When we were in France 11 months ago, you mentioned the scattergels and the rods that were being produced and I’d been wondering when those would eventually go on sale. I just ordered a set! Can’t wait to use them, though with the way the lockdown is here in the US, it might be a few more months before I can get in a quality shoot with the model, but I’m definitely looking forward to having the scattergels in my kit!

      Hi Jay,

Thank you for the compliments. I was amazed at how long it took me to get this to market. Just going from the 3D printed model to the version involving 6 injection moulded pieces was a big challenge involving a lot of steps. It’s here now though and I’m very pleased with the way it works. Thank you for buying it. I’ll get that shipped over to you today.

It probably won’t be too long now before you can start shooting again. Things are starting to open back up in the US from what I hear on the news.

      Stay safe,

      Damien.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching this video. Love the ‘easy’ manner of presentation & the images.
I don’t think I have ever photographed a person – in earnest ( outside of family snaps ) – but found this fascinating

ps – absolutely love the GFX50r & your previous reviews / how to’s were a god send when I changed to the Fuji platform & the camera. Can see a lot of use for this lighting in landscapes – particularly flat light in more intimate shooting
    Thank you

    Hey Damien,

Looks like a great product. FYI for me all the buttons worked on the website except the all important “Buy Now” button. However, the “Add to Cart” button works.
I will probably pick one of these kits up. Love the drama this adds to the scenes as you said.
